Synopsis

Jeremy Thatcher is a quiet, artistic boy who is comfortable around animals because his father is a veterinarian. At Mr. Elives' magic shop he buys a marbled orb that turns out to be a dragon egg. When it hatches, Jeremy has a baby dragon named Tiamat to look after. Tiamat is playful, breathes fire, has sharp teeth and an enormous appetite, and Jeremy has to hide her in his bedroom. The two develop a strong bond that lets them sense each other's feelings. As Tiamat grows, Jeremy must work out how to keep a dragon secret from his family and neighbours, and what he owes to a creature that depends on him.
