Synopsis
Leonardo Caspana, a poor boy from the Chilean highlands, receives a revelation and travels to Arica. He has to cross the northern desert to find the Heart of the Earth, a treasure hidden since the Spanish arrived. His search is part of a magical war between black magicians and alchemists on one side and American shamans and sorcerers on the other. Joined by a girl and a highland healer, Leonardo meets creatures from Chilean myth as he heads south toward Antarctica. Along the way he receives help from the sorcerers of Chiloé, from machis and from forest spirits, and he sails on the ghost ship Caleuche. The quest centres on a blue stone said to give life to the land.
