Synopsis

In the Lyoza Kingdom, young Elin lives happily in a village that raises the Tōda, fearsome serpent-like beasts bred as weapons of war, until her mother, a beast doctor, is condemned to death after Tōda in her care die. Her mother’s mysterious finger-whistle saves Elin from the same fate, and the girl is rescued and taken in by Jōun, a beekeeper. Drawn ever more strongly to living creatures, Elin resolves to become a beast doctor like her mother, setting out on a path that will entangle her with the two great beasts on which the kingdom’s divided power depends.
