Synopsis
In the twelfth and final novel of the original series, James Stark and his close circle of friends and allies are living through a viral epidemic that has struck Los Angeles, killing some residents outright and leaving others violently deranged. Amid the chaos of a city already stretched thin by supernatural threats, Stark is drawn into confrontation with a mysterious, apocalyptic figure known as King Bullet, whose presence seems tied to the outbreak itself. As the epidemic worsens and King Bullet's influence spreads, Stark has to rally his allies, most of whom have their own histories of loss and violence stretching back across the earlier novels, for a magical confrontation that puts everyone's abilities and loyalties to their hardest test yet.

Notes
- From the series record (Sandman Slim): Complete 12-novel urban-fantasy sequence (2009-2021) following James Stark, a magician who escaped an eleven-year exile in Hell to hunt down the people who murdered his girlfriend and sent him there, working cases across a supernatural Los Angeles. "Devil in the Dollhouse" (2012), a novella slotting between books 3 and 4, is kept out of Core as companion material, not one of the twelve main-sequence novels.
