Synopsis
King of the Rising continues the Islands of Blood and Storm duology after the events of Queen of the Conquered, picking up with the aftermath of the deadly succession struggle that consumed the first book among the ruling Jannik family and the wider colonized islands. With the balance of power among the kongelig noble houses and the enslaved population thrown into disarray by what Sigourney Rose set in motion, the novel follows the fallout as old alliances collapse and new ones form amid the islands' escalating unrest. Continuing the first book's use of the forbidden kraft abilities and its unflinching look at colonial violence, the sequel pushes the conflict between the ruling class and those they have oppressed toward a reckoning that the first novel's succession contest only began.
