Synopsis

Kun was once a green kingdom, but now it is a dry, dusty land where people go hungry. Twelve-year-old Amara lives with her adoptive mother, Zirachi, and the two farm barely enough food to survive. At a harvest festival where hungry crowds riot, a guard of the king's tries to seize Amara, and she escapes but is forced to leave her mother behind. She finds shelter with a secret band of griots, magic-users who serve the goddess Oala, and they tell her that the king has no true claim to the throne. Amara sets out to find the person who can set Kun right, and begins to learn the truth about her own past.
