Synopsis

La Horde du Contrevent follows the thirty-fourth Horde of the Contrewind, a company of twenty-three companions aged twenty-five to forty-three, each trained since childhood in a distinct role, from tracking to healing and keeping the group's chronicle. On a world swept by wind of varying intensity, the Horde sets out from the sheltered region known as Downwind, journeying against the wind across plains, water, and glacial peaks toward Upwind and, ultimately, the legendary Extreme-Upwind, said to be the source of all winds. They travel in the wake of eight centuries of prior expeditions, all of which failed to reach that goal, relying on knowledge and equipment those earlier hordes left behind. As they push into hostile terrain, the company must contend with the wind's constant resistance and the toll the journey takes on its specialized members.
