Synopsis
Silvia Tebrick, a young married woman of twenty-four, is out walking in the woods with her husband Richard when she suddenly turns into a fox. Richard, who loves her and refuses to accept the change as final, takes her home and tries to keep her secret from servants and neighbours. He treats her as his wife, dressing her and sharing his table with her, yet her habits grow steadily more like those of a vixen: she is restless, drawn to the open air and to the scent of the hunt. The story follows a devoted and bewildered husband as he struggles to hold on to a marriage that the world, and Silvia's own nature, are pulling apart.
