Synopsis

Opening The Dark Artifices, this novel follows seventeen-year-old Shadowhunter Emma Carstairs at the Los Angeles Institute, still driven by the unsolved murder of her parents five years earlier. She works alongside her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, who quietly manages the Institute and cares for his younger siblings, when a string of ritual killings targeting faeries and mundanes at sacred sites draws them into a dangerous investigation. The Wild Hunt pressures the Shadowhunters to solve the murders quietly, threatening to reclaim Julian's brother Mark, and clues point toward a resurrection ritual requiring further sacrifices. As Emma and Julian close in on the killer, they must also confront the deepening, forbidden feelings between them as parabatai, a bond Shadowhunter law forbids from becoming romantic.
