Synopsis
In 1341, the Bastard of Kosigan and his company follow clues from his own past deep into the Holy Roman Empire, where they enter the service of a powerful lord on the Rhine. The setting is one of political intrigue, magic and religious conflict, with witch hunts under way and the Inquisition active. The knight must move carefully among rival factions, where allies are hard to tell from enemies. Centuries later, his descendant Kergaël de Kosigan tries to answer questions raised by his ancestor's writings, but digging up historical secrets proves risky. The publisher also points to verbal duels, battles, seduction and manipulation in the manner of the Kosigan house.
