Synopsis
In 1340, as the Hundred Years' War begins, the Bastard of Kosigan and his company, the Wolves, are sent into Flanders by the English seneschal. Their task is to uncover a plot centred on the King of France. The knight's supernatural ancestry has always been his greatest asset, but this time it may turn into a weakness. A second strand is set in late 1899, where a descendant of the knight investigates the unexplained disappearance of magical powers. His search takes him between Bruges and Lens and toward the hidden forces behind history. The book blends medieval fantasy with a rational nineteenth century, and alternates between the two periods.
