Synopsis
Newlyweds Fawn and Dag travel to his Lakewalker clan's home in the aftermath of Beguilement, hoping to have their unconventional marriage recognized despite the deep prejudice that divides Farmers like Fawn from Lakewalkers like Dag. Instead they find Dag's own family and camp deeply resistant to the match, viewing Fawn's presence as a violation of customs meant to keep Lakewalker bloodlines and secrets separate from the farmer settlements they are sworn to protect. As Fawn struggles to be accepted by a community openly hostile to her, and Dag is forced to weigh his loyalty to his clan against his commitment to his wife, the couple must find a way to make their marriage work within a world that was never built to accommodate it.
