Synopsis
Newlyweds Fawn and Dag embark on a honeymoon journey south toward the Southern Sea by flatboat, hoping for a period of relative peace after the difficult reception Fawn received among Dag's own people in the previous book. Their travels are complicated when Dag's healing abilities, extraordinary even by Lakewalker standards, begin drawing unwanted attention from farmers and Lakewalkers alike, forcing him to reveal guarded secrets about Lakewalker magic that his people normally keep hidden from outsiders. As word of Dag's gifts spreads along the river, the couple is drawn into a dangerous confrontation with a renegade posing a threat that neither farmers nor Lakewalkers can safely ignore, testing how far Dag is willing to go against his own people's customs to do what he believes is right.
