Synopsis
Dag sets out, with Fawn at his side, to find a teacher capable of helping him understand and develop the unusual healing abilities that have set him apart from other Lakewalkers throughout the earlier books, abilities that hint at ways farmers and Lakewalkers might work together rather than remain divided. The resulting expedition brings together an unprecedented mix of Lakewalkers and farmers, who must learn to set aside generations of mutual suspicion to confront the dangerous malices still threatening both their peoples. As Dag pushes to establish new methods and alliances that his own conservative culture resists, the group's success or failure carries implications far beyond their immediate journey for how Lakewalkers and farmers might coexist going forward.
