Synopsis
The Players of Luck, the second volume of the Liavek shared-world anthology edited by Emma Bull and Will Shetterly, continues the series with thirteen further pieces of fiction, song, and prose by contributors including Charles de Lint and Gregory Frost, all set within the established world of the trade city of Liavek on the Sea of Luck. As in the first volume, the stories draw on Liavek's shared magic system, in which every resident's inborn birth luck must be invested annually into an external object before it can be used to cast spells, and explore the city's merchants, canals, and neighborhoods through the eyes of different authors' characters. The anthology format allows multiple, loosely connected storylines to unfold side by side within the same city and its ongoing continuity established by the earlier volume.
