Synopsis
A dark reimagining of Sleeping Beauty set in the Briar Kingdom, where magical beings called Graces are bound from birth into lifelong service to the mortal nobles who fear and despise the very powers they exploit. Alyce is a rare Dark Grace, whose magic produces only ugliness, decay, and ruin rather than the beauty her more favored counterparts are prized for, a difference that makes her an object of contempt and harassment among both her peers and the court she is forced to serve. Everything shifts when Alyce meets Princess Aurora, the kingdom's cherished heir, and the two women form a connection that crosses every line the Briar Kingdom's rigid caste of Graces and nobles is meant to keep firmly in place, drawing Alyce toward choices, and toward Aurora, that put both of their carefully maintained positions at risk.
