Synopsis
Twin brothers Sandy and Dennys Murry are accidentally caught up in an experiment in their parents' home laboratory during a New England winter and find themselves abruptly transported to a sun-scorched desert oasis in a wholly different time. There they encounter the water-prospector Japheth, the aged Lamech, and Noah and his family, including Noah's daughter Yalith, alongside supernatural beings such as the winged seraphim and the menacing, giant nephilim. The twins gradually realize they have landed in the biblical era shortly before the Flood, and, separated from one another for stretches of the story, each brother undergoes his own trials as he adjusts to a world where angels walk openly and unicorns are real.
Where it sits
- Universe: Time Quintet
- Series: Time Quintet core; position 4 of 5 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Madeleine L'Engle
Notes
- From the series record (Time Quintet): The five-book Time Quintet: A Wrinkle in Time and its direct sequels, following the Murry and O'Keefe children across cosmic/time travel adventures. This project treats the whole quintet as Core Canon; L'Engle's separately-continuitied O'Keefe family novels (e.g. The Arm of the Starfish, Dragons in the Waters), which share some characters but are spy/thriller fiction rather than fantasy, are out of scope and not catalogued here.
