Synopsis

Three years after nearly dying in Port Caynn's sewers, Provost's Dog Beka Cooper is drawn into a dangerous covert operation in Mastiff, the third Beka Cooper novel, after her fiance is killed during a slave raid. Still reeling from the loss, she is recruited by her patron, Lord Gershom, for an urgent classified mission alongside her partner Tunstall, her scent hound Achoo, and a mage named Master Farmer. The case, kept secret even from most of the Provost's Dogs, involves a kidnapping connected to the royal family and forces Beka to track suspects far beyond the familiar streets of Corus and into unmapped, unfamiliar terrain. As the investigation unfolds, Beka finds herself navigating political corruption and powerful enemies wielding dark magic, uncertain which allies she can trust as the stakes for the crown grow ever higher.
