Synopsis

In 1980s Ottawa, Sara Kendell and her uncle Jamie Tamson run a cluttered antique shop out of Tamson House, the sprawling old family mansion that takes up an entire city block and plays host to a shifting household of artists, musicians and strays. Among a box of junk Sara finds a few odd artefacts, including a curious ring, and senses the pull of a dim and distant place: a world of misty forests, ancient magics, mythical beings and ageless bards. At the same time Kieran Foy, a folk musician with a wizard's training, is searching for his missing mentor, Thomas Hengwr, while dodging a newly formed and secret RCMP unit, Project Mindreach, that is investigating the paranormal. As these threads converge on the House, Sara is drawn through its portals into the Otherworld, where she meets the Welsh bard Taliesin, and a restless evil begins to stir.

Notes

  • From the series record (Tamson House): Charles de Lint's Ottawa novels of Tamson House, the block-sized mansion that is a gateway between the modern city and a spirit world of Celtic and Native American magic: Moonheart and its sequel Spiritwalk, a fix-up of four linked tales. The author's own bibliography groups them as his Ottawa books, distinct from Newford.
