Synopsis

The second novel in the Others series picks up shortly after the events of Written in Red. In the Lakeside Courtyard, blood prophet Meg Corbyn dreams of blood and black feathers scattered in the snow, leading shapeshifter leader Simon Wolfgard to wonder whether her vision foretells a past attack already survived or a new threat still to come. The mystery deepens as two addictive new drugs begin circulating through the human population, stoking violence and mistrust between humans and the Others just as the fragile truce between the two groups is still finding its footing, forcing Meg and Simon to work out what her latest vision truly means before it is too late.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
