Synopsis

Night Broken continues the Mercy Thompson series when Adam's ex-wife Christy arrives at their home seeking protection from a dangerous man pursuing her, unsettling the household and testing Mercy's patience as Christy settles in under their roof. At the same time, Mercy faces a separate complication when a Gray Lord's demand for the return of a walking stick she once gave to the trickster spirit Coyote carries consequences she does not fully understand at first. As the threat trailing Christy proves more dangerous than expected, Mercy and Adam must work together despite the tension Christy's presence brings into their relationship, while Mercy also tries to untangle the stakes behind the fae's demand. Balancing an unwelcome houseguest, a menacing pursuer, and an increasingly complicated fae obligation, Mercy finds herself managing threats on more fronts than she anticipated.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Mercy Thompson: position 8 of 14: previous Frost Burned (2013) · next Fire Touched (2016)
  • Internal chronology, within Mercy Thompson / Alpha and Omega: position 14 of 20: previous Frost Burned (2013) · next Fire Touched (2016)
