Synopsis
Night of Knives is the first novel of the Novels of the Malazan Empire series by Ian C. Esslemont, acting as a prequel of sorts to the wider Malazan saga. Set during a single ominous night when a rare magical convergence known as the Shadow Moon descends over Malaz City, the story centers on what happens to the empire's mysterious founders, the Emperor Kellanved and his silent partner Dancer, during those fateful hours, as unseen forces move through the city and long-laid plans finally come to a head, while ordinary soldiers, guardsmen, and assassins are caught up in events whose true scale few of them can grasp.
