Synopsis
In the Free City of Greyhawk, the most famous seers are murdered on the same night, each beside his own tools of divination. Garett Starlen, commander of the City Watch's night shift, takes the case. The city's laws forbid the use of magic in investigations, so he must rely on informants, plain reasoning and his knowledge of the people of the streets. City officials care more about politics and appearances than about the dead. As he follows the trail, strange creatures begin to attack citizens, the powerful Guild of Wizards is overcome by an unseen force, and the zealots of the Horned Society continue their campaign. Starlen finds that the killings are part of a wider threat to the city.
