Synopsis
A devastating storm swells the Tennessee River to dam-breaking levels on the eve of Eden Moore's planned move into a new riverside apartment, and floodwater pours into Chattanooga. With the rising waters comes a tide of corpses sunk in the river for more than a century: twenty-nine victims of a long-ago slaughter who walk when the water rises, patrolling the banks and dragging the living down to a muddy grave, animated and organised by a malignant force with an inscrutable purpose. When Eden realises that the dead army is converging on the historic Read House, she draws a connection to the ghost of Caroline Read, who haunts the building trying to resolve a hushed-up nineteenth-century atrocity, and the reluctant medium may be the only one who can stop them adding hundreds of the city's people to their ranks. The trilogy's conclusion.
