Overview

Cherie Priest's debut trilogy (2003-2007) gives Southern Gothic an urban, modern setting in and around Chattanooga, Tennessee, where Priest lived for twelve years. Eden Moore, orphaned at birth and raised on Signal Mountain by her aunt, has always seen the dead: three ghostly women watch over her, bound to protect her, while a living enemy believes she is destined to follow her wicked great-grandfather, a magician with the power to curse the living and raise the dead. Across three stand-alone books the reluctant medium is drawn from family secrets in Georgia and Florida to the haunted Civil War battlefield of Chickamauga and finally to a drowned Chattanooga where an army of the long-dead rises from the flooding Tennessee River. Its first book won the inaugural Lulu Blooker Prize for fiction.
