Synopsis

Leila Dalton is a mortal woman who was electrocuted as a child. Since then she can release electricity through her touch and read people's secrets from what she handles. She keeps to herself and works the carnival circuit until creatures of the night kidnap her. In desperation she sends a telepathic call for help to Vlad Tepesh, a vampire said to be the real man behind the Dracula legend, who controls fire. Vlad's enemies plan to use Leila against him, but when the two meet, an attraction develops between them.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
