Synopsis

The first book of Darian's Tale, co-written with Larry Dixon, opens some years after the Mage Wars era, introducing Darian, a young orphan apprenticed to an aging wizard named Justyn in a village on the edge of the Pelagiris Forest. Darian's parents, hunters who once worked the forest, disappeared on an expedition long before the story begins, leaving him with unresolved grief and an uncertain place in the village. When an army of northern raiders attacks and burns the settlement, Darian is left to flee alone into the deep forest, where he encounters the Hawkbrothers, an ancient, elf-like people who form close bonds with birds of prey. This chance meeting draws Darian into their world and sets him on an unexpected path toward discovering his own magical calling.
