Synopsis
A prequel to Weetzie Bat, this novel follows Louise Bat, a thirteen-year-old growing up in a dreamlike, magical Los Angeles of the 1970s, before she becomes Weetzie. Her father has suddenly left, and her mother is consumed by sadness, so Louise feels isolated and has to find her own strength. Her city is full of punk rock, hazy pink skies and strange angels, and magic appears in ordinary places. She forms unexpected bonds with outsiders and with mysterious new neighbours, and works towards becoming the person she wants to be.
