Synopsis
Polgara the Sorceress is a companion prequel to Belgarath the Sorcerer, narrated by Polgara, Belgarath's daughter and one of the guiding figures of the Belgariad, recounting her own life from birth through the many centuries leading up to the main series. It follows her early upbringing under her father's care, her long guardianship of the royal line of Riva across generations, and the personal and political struggles she faces while safeguarding the world against the forces aligned with Torak. The narrative fills in details of Polgara's relationships with figures who appear only briefly or after the fact in the earlier books, tracing how her long life of vigilance and sacrifice shapes the world Garion is born into. The book closes as events converge on the beginning of Pawn of Prophecy.
