Synopsis
Closing The Dark Artifices, this novel finds the Los Angeles Institute caught in political upheaval as the anti-Downworlder faction known as the Cohort maneuvers Inquisitor Horace Dearborn into power. Dearborn sends Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn on a mission to Faerie meant to eliminate a resurrected Annabel Blackthorn and retrieve the dangerous Black Volume of the Dead. The two are unexpectedly pulled into Thule, a devastated alternate reality where the Blight, a demonic corruption, has ravaged the world, and they must find a way back while the Cohort tightens its grip on their own world through a proposed Downworlder registry. As old bonds are tested and transformed, Emma and Julian must find a way to stop Dearborn's rise before the Cohort's vision for Shadowhunter society becomes permanent.
