Synopsis

Reckless: The Petrified Flesh is a young-adult fantasy novel by Cornelia Funke, inspired by Brothers Grimm tales. Twelve years after his brother Jacob first discovered a portal into the magical Mirrorworld through an old mirror in their father's study, and vanished into it for stretches at a time, young Will follows him through the mirror himself, against Jacob's wishes. Almost immediately Will is attacked by a Goyl, a stone-skinned humanoid warrior race native to the Mirrorworld, and the wound begins slowly turning his own skin to stone. With his younger brother's transformation spreading and no ordinary cure available, Jacob is forced to draw on everything he has learned in his years of secret exploration of the Mirrorworld to find a way to save him before the stone reaches Will's heart.
