Synopsis
Red Prophet, published in 1988, continues the Tales of Alvin Maker, following young Alvin Miller as he is drawn into the escalating conflict between American frontier settlers and Native American nations, a struggle reimagined through an altered version of the historical Battle of Tippecanoe with a different outcome than in actual history. Central to this reimagined conflict are the Native American brothers Ta-Kumsaw and Tenskwa-Tawa, whose differing responses to settlers encroaching on their land shape the novel's exploration of two opposing paths, one of resistance and one of spiritual withdrawal. Alvin's growing magical abilities and his exposure to both settler and Native cultures place him at the crossroads of this conflict, deepening the series' blend of folk magic and reimagined history introduced in Seventh Son.
