Overview
An alternate-history fantasy saga set on an American frontier where folk magic genuinely works. Alvin Miller, the seventh son of a seventh son, is born with an extraordinary talent for "making" and grows up amid rival systems of magic, religion, and politics in a reimagined early United States. Orson Scott Card's Tales of Alvin Maker spans seven novels published between 1987 and a long-delayed 2026 conclusion, Master Alvin -- Seventh Son, Red Prophet, Prentice Alvin, Alvin Journeyman, Heartfire, The Crystal City, and finally Master Alvin -- tracing Alvin's growth from a gifted child into an adult "Maker" navigating a fractured, magically altered version of nineteenth-century America. The series reworks real historical figures and events, including an alternate path for Napoleon and a divided American continent, into its folk-magic framework, and Seventh Son was a finalist for both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for Best Novel.
