Overview
Crown of Stars is a seven-volume secondary-world epic fantasy series by Kate Elliott, published between 1997 and 2006: King's Dragon (1997), Prince of Dogs (1998), The Burning Stone (1999), Child of Flame (2000), The Gathering Storm (2003), In the Ruins (2005), and Crown of Stars (2006). Drawing on early medieval European history, astrology, and the political structures of the Carolingian and Ottonian empires, the series follows a wide ensemble cast, including a low-born soldier of hidden heritage and a young nun with a dangerous magical gift, through a single continuous continent-spanning conflict involving rival kingdoms, a hostile church hierarchy, and forces from beyond the mortal world. The opening volume, King's Dragon, was a finalist for the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1997, helping establish Elliott's reputation as a major voice in epic fantasy through the late 1990s and 2000s alongside her other series.
