Kate Elliott is the pen name of Alis A. Rasmussen, born in 1958. She began writing in the 1980s, publishing her first four novels under her birth name before adopting the name Kate Elliott in 1992 at her publisher's request for a name unconnected to previous sales figures; her sales improved significantly afterward. Her Jaran series, beginning in 1992, has been called a science fiction romance classic and an epic masterpiece by reviewers. She is also known for the seven-book Crown of Stars epic fantasy cycle (1997-2006), whose first volume, King's Dragon, was a 1997 Nebula Award nominee, and for The Golden Key (1996), a collaborative novel with Melanie Rawn and Jennifer Roberson that became a World Fantasy Award finalist. Her more recent work includes Unconquerable Sun (2020), the first novel in a gender-bending space opera trilogy inspired by Alexander the Great. A native of Junction City, Oregon, Elliott now lives in Hawaii with her husband, archaeologist Jay Silverstein, and their three children, maintaining an active writing career across fantasy and science fiction spanning more than four decades.
