Synopsis
Rides a Dread Legion opens the Demonwar Saga with the arrival of the Taredhel, a lost branch of elves calling themselves the people of the stars, who have crossed the void to reach Midkemia in the belief that it is their long-lost ancestral homeworld. Their ruthless determination to reclaim the world for themselves poses one danger, but a far greater threat follows close behind them: a horde of demons, the Dread Legion, pursuing the Taredhel across the void and now bearing down on Midkemia itself. Pug and the Conclave of Shadows must scramble to organize a defense against this dual threat, recruiting allies including a warlock and a cleric whose rekindled romance carries its own complications, all while Pug wrestles privately with a long-standing prophecy that he will outlive everyone he loves.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

- Internal chronology, within Riftwar Cycle: position 26 of 30: previous Wrath of a Mad God (2008) · next At the Gates of Darkness (2010)
