Synopsis

Risen is the twelfth novel in the Alex Verus series and finds Alex, who began the series as a quiet, low-profile shopkeeper, now regarded as one of the most feared and notorious mages in Britain because of the choices forced on him by the preceding books. He faces two of the most dangerous threats of his life at once: his old master Richard Drakh and his friend Anne, whose bond with a jinn has left her mind badly fractured and her power difficult to predict. Protecting Anne from the consequences of her possession means Alex can no longer rely on the diplomatic, careful approach that defined his earlier years, pushing him toward more desperate and dangerous measures. The novel brings together plot threads and character arcs built up across the series as Alex confronts these two adversaries.
