Synopsis

Rosemary and Rue opens the October Daye series and introduces October "Toby" Daye, a half-fae changeling private investigator who spent fourteen years trapped in the body of a fish, cursed by the fae lord Simon Torquill, before regaining human form in 2009. Traumatized by the ordeal, Toby has been trying to build a quiet, ordinary life working at a grocery store and staying well away from Faerie and its politics. That fragile peace collapses when her former mentor, Countess Evening Winterrose, one of the secret fae regents of the San Francisco Bay Area, is murdered; with her dying breath, Evening binds Toby with a curse compelling her to investigate the killing, a geas Toby is physically unable to resist or ignore.
