Synopsis
Gwyneth Shepherd's sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for travelling through time: the gene is passed down through the women of their extended London family, and everyone believed Charlotte had inherited it. But it is sixteen-year-old Gwyneth who, unexpectedly and in the middle of class, takes a sudden spin to a different era. With no training in how to behave in other periods and no background in the Guardians, the secret society that protects the travellers, she must unearth why her mother lied about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon, the time traveller from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together they journey through eighteenth-century and contemporary London to discover whom they can trust. Published in English as Ruby Red.
