Synopsis
The second novel picks up with Lanie Stones living in exile and mourning a recent personal loss, her grief entangled with her identity as a necromancer of considerable, still-developing power. Her attention turns to her great-grandfather, Irradiant Stones, an ancient and effectively deathless necromancer who escapes his long imprisonment and seizes a body for himself. Grandpa Rad sets out for Skakhmat, the icy country where he first died, intending to complete a campaign of genocide he began generations earlier. Backed by newfound relatives and drawing on her own death magic, including the ability to sing restless spirits to their rest, Lanie takes up the pursuit, determined to stop her ancestor before he can carry out his plans in Skakhmat.
