Synopsis
In the tenth and concluding book of the Shadows of the Apt series, Empress Seda is left to grapple with the consequences of the power she has pursued so relentlessly throughout the preceding books, having secured her position at considerable personal and moral cost. The central crisis of the novel arrives when the ancient Seal that has long held back a monstrous, world-devouring force known as the Worm is shattered, allowing the Worm to stir toward the light for the first time in a thousand years and threatening to consume everything in its path. Seda comes to recognize that only extreme measures offer any hope of containing the Worm again, setting up a difficult reckoning between the scale of the danger she now faces and the methods she may be willing to use against it.
