Synopsis
In the fifth novel of the Graceling Realm, Hava sails across the sea toward Monsea together with her sister, Queen Bitterblue, carrying the only existing copies of the formulas for the dangerous zilfium weapon. During the voyage Hava makes an unexpected discovery about one of the ship's crew, but before she can act on it, storms drive the ship badly off course and wreck it in the ice far to the north of the Royal Continent. The survivors, Hava among them, must then undertake a grueling overland journey across the frozen terrain to find their way back to safety, all while Queen Bitterblue grapples with the weight of responsibility for a weapon capable of changing the world.

- From the series record (Graceling Realm): A young-adult secondary-world fantasy sequence about people born with a superhuman 'Grace' in a single specialized skill. Fire (2009) is a prequel set ~35 years before Graceling, in the neighboring land of the Dells; Bitterblue (2012) is a direct sequel to Graceling; Winterkeep (2021) and Seasparrow (2022) continue Bitterblue's story further north. Each book is independently readable per the author's own site, but all 5 share one continuous world and are registered as one universe. No 6th book has been announced; treated as a completed 5-book sequence.
