Overview

A secondary-world young-adult fantasy sequence by Kristin Cashore, published between 2008 and 2022 and set across the Seven Kingdoms and the neighboring land of the Dells, where some people, called Gracelings, are born with a superhuman skill in one specific ability, such as combat, mind-reading, survival, or something stranger, and are marked by mismatched eye colors. Graceling (2008) follows Katsa, whose Grace was believed to be killing until she joins a secret Council working for justice and, with Prince Po, uncovers that King Leck of Monsea possesses a Grace for mind control through persuasion. Fire (2009) is set in the Dells roughly 35 years earlier and follows a human-monster hybrid with a supernatural gift for mind control, while Bitterblue (2012), Winterkeep (2021), and Seasparrow (2022) continue the Seven Kingdoms story and extend it into the further land of Winterkeep. Graceling won the 2009 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children's Literature.
