Synopsis

Eleven-year-old Connie Lionheart is left to stay with her eccentric Aunt Evelyn in the seaside town of Hescombe. There she discovers that mythical creatures are real and that a secret group, the Society for the Protection of Mythical Creatures, looks after them. The sirens have begun luring oil workers to their deaths, and Connie learns that she is a Universal, able to communicate with every beast on earth and in the air. A former Universal who was corrupted by that power, the shapeshifter Kullervo, has returned and is gathering creatures for an attack on humanity, and he wants Connie on his side.
