Synopsis
A loose alliance of young rulers, mages, scribes, friends and former enemies is on the run and finds refuge in a tiny, little-known agrarian kingdom, where things are not quite what they seem. Some of them set out after ancient magical artifacts, and those quests go badly. Senrid, the Marloven warrior king, goes into hiding from conquerors who want him dead. Atan, who favours peaceful solutions, discovers that she has a gift for strategy, and Jilo, a sergeant's son, carries a message across a continent.
