Synopsis

Sethra Lavode concludes the Viscount of Adrilankha trilogy, bringing the conflict between the newly restored Empire and the warlord Kana's rebellion to its final confrontation. Khaavren, his son Piro, Morrolan, Sethra Lavode, and their allies, including Piro's love Ibronka, face escalating military and magical threats as Kana's coalition presses its campaign against the young Empress Zerika's fragile rule. The personal bonds and rivalries established across the earlier volumes, from Khaavren's long friendships to Piro and Ibronka's relationship, are tested as the characters are drawn into the climactic struggle to secure the Empire's future. Woven throughout are the magical complications surrounding Morrolan's growing power and Sethra Lavode's own long history, as the disparate threads of the trilogy's restoration plot converge toward the war's decisive turning point.

Where it sits

  • Universe: Dragaera
  • Series: The Khaavren Romances core; position 5 of 6 in the series' recorded order
  • Author: Steven Brust

Notes

  • From the series record (The Khaavren Romances): 6 novels (1991-2020), narrated in-world by the fictional historian 'Paarfi of Roundwood' in a deliberately florid Dumas-pastiche style, set centuries before the Vlad Taltos sequence. Books 3-5 form 'The Viscount of Adrilankha' trilogy within the sequence. Publication order equals internal chronological order throughout (no divergence, unlike the Vlad Taltos sequence).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
