Synopsis
She Is the Darkness continues directly from Bleak Seasons as the Black Company and its allied army push through a mountain pass toward the city of Overlook, moving to confront the sorcerer Longshadow, his ally the Howler, and the renegade Nar commander Mogaba in the looming battle for the city. Murgen, the Company's Annalist, retains his unusual and disorienting ability to perceive events unfolding across time, which lets him gather a far broader account of the campaign than any single vantage point would allow, while Croaker, still called the Old Man by his troops, must read and counter the moves of enemies advancing on several fronts simultaneously. The Company's march toward Overlook brings mounting complexity and action as multiple hostile forces converge, testing both the army's cohesion and Croaker's ability to anticipate threats before they strike.
