Synopsis

Silverthorn is the second novel in the Riftwar Saga and is set some years after Magician, opening as Arutha, the newly installed Prince of Krondor, prepares for his wedding to Anita while facing a string of mysterious assassination attempts against him. On his wedding day an assassin's poisoned bolt intended for Arutha strikes Anita instead, and the poison, drawn from a plant called silverthorn that grows only in dangerous moredhel territory, leaves her life hanging by a thread. With prophecy suggesting that Arutha alone stands against the rising threat of the moredhel leader Murmandamus, he must set out to find both an antidote for Anita and answers about the forces conspiring against the Kingdom, even as Murmandamus prepares an invasion.
