Synopsis

Skin Taker continues the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series after a meteorite strikes the forest with devastating force, destroying the First Tree, a place of deep significance to the clans, and releasing demons that had long been contained. In the chaos that follows, a new and unfamiliar threat known as the Skin Takers begins to emerge, operating under the direction of Naiginn, the demon-possessed tokoroth whose manipulation of Renn already troubled Torak in the previous book. As the Skin Takers' activity spreads, Torak, Renn, and Wolf must work to understand what these new enemies are capable of and how they connect to Naiginn's broader ambitions, even as the destruction of the First Tree leaves the clans more vulnerable than they have been in years.

Notes

  • From the series record (Chronicles of Ancient Darkness): A nine-novel middle-grade saga set six thousand years ago in prehistoric Europe, following the orphaned boy Torak and his wolf companion. The first six novels (2004-2009) tell one continuous story; a further three novels (2020-2022) continue the same characters and world. Ghost Hunter, the sixth novel, won the 2010 Guardian Children's Fiction Prize.
