Synopsis
Pyrre Lakatur, an apprentice priestess devoted to the God of Death, must complete a final trial to become fully ordained: she has fourteen days to kill seven people named in an ancient song, including someone she genuinely loves, a task complicated by the fact that she has never actually been in love. Returning early to her violent hometown, she sets out to find a romantic connection with the private intention of ending it.

- Universe: Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne
- Series: not part of a registered series (standalone work within its universe)

Notes
- A prequel following the assassin Pyrre Lakatur, set before the main trilogy; a companion story rather than part of the trilogy's own three-book narrative.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne (standalone work): position 4 of 4: previous The Last Mortal Bond (2016)
